Reminder to all Show Chairman and Event Committees Regarding Field Staff

With the current under staffing of the Executive Field Staff with the American Kennel Club, there will be a greater number of events without a Field Representative in attendance than in the past. The presence or lack of an Executive Field Representative does not affect the duties, responsibilities and authority of the show chairman. The role of the Executive Field Representative is to observe judging and assist the committee in the running of its event in an advisory role where appropriate. The responsibility of ensuring that the event is managed in accordance to the Rules, Regulations and Policies of the American Kennel Club is that of the show chairman. The absence of an Executive Field Representative does not excuse a club’s responsibility in these areas, especially in the case of a complying with situations that may result in a disciplinary hearing.

You are encouraged to seek contact information from a member of the Executive Field Staff, the Event Plans Department and/or the Compliance Department to assist or guide you if needed in dealing with these situations. Negligence in these areas may lead to your club being reprimanded or fined by the American Kennel Club if actions or lack thereof are not in accordance to the Rules Applying to Dog Shows and the Rules Applying to Registration and Discipline.

If no Executive Field Representative is in attendance and your club needs guidance during your event please call the weekend hotline (800) 252-7894.
