2007 Florida Junior Jamboree

Juniors with their dogs in tow arrived bright and early at Central Florida Fairgrounds in Orlando, Florida on July 21st to participate in the 2007 Florida Junior Jamboree. The Jamboree is a day long event filled with instruction on all aspects of Junior Showmanship. AKC Executive Field Representative, Michael Sauve welcomed all participants to the event with opening remarks. Throughout the day Mr. Sauve was available to answer questions from Juniors and parents. The American Kennel Club gave all participants copies of AKC Junior Regulations and Guidelines, AKC Junior Handler Number request form, Juniors in AKC Events, and Getting Started in AKC Events. The Juniors that participated enjoyed the day spending time with their dogs and learning about showing in AKC Junior Showmanship.

The Junior Jamboree included in-ring instruction as well as sessions on grooming, sportsmanship, proper dress for showing in Juniors, Canine Nutrition, and an introduction to AKC Junior Showmanship. 135 Juniors were divided into groups according their age and experience level. There was also a session for theparents of the participants. The event was free to all participants and included lunch, a goodie bag filled with dog supplies and treats, a grooming apron, and a show lead and collar. Many of the Juniors participated in a Junior Showmanship match that followed the event. This was a great opportunity to practice what they had learned earlier in the day.

All Junior participants and their parents were grateful for the time and knowledge shared by the instructors. A special thank you to the following instructors: AKC Junior Judges David Stout, Haley Whitcomb, Cheslie Pickett, William Cunningham, and Megan Mello; handlers Joe Napolitano, Connie Sager, Carol Kepler, Sandy and Jessie Herzon; Canine Nutrition expert Carol Siflinger; Oster Certified Professional Groomer Judy Hudson; Tonya Jordan, representative from AKC licensed superintendent, MB-F, Inc. and AKC Registered Handler, Larry Cornelius.
