My First National
By Dana Stokesberry
I wanted to share my experience with you that I had at my very first National Show Specialty. On Saturday October 2nd The American Chesapeake Club hosted their 2010 National at Christmas Hill Park, Gilroy, CA. The weather was warm and humid, and the grounds were infested with yellow jackets, but we managed to protect our dog from the heat and stinging insects, keeping him cooled and with plenty of water so overheating wasn't a factor. We met many new friends and I was asked to show two other dogs for fellow fanciers.
The show was very nice even though I got stung by a Yellow Jacket while presenting a dog in BOB who had won the Hunting Bitch Class, I never left the ring for first aid until the class had ended because I wanted to show the dog to the end. Sadly we didn't win however there was the largest number of Chesapeake Bay Retrievers I've ever seen in the ring at one time in my life.
I would like to thank those who worked so hard to put this event together as well as everyone who attended and look forward to future events.
I am proud to have the honor of Best Junior Handler !
