| Heather Dahlin I am Heather, a 16-year old dog enthusiast who participates in several dog sports with the AKC. At our town’s last responsible dog ownership event, I shared my personal experiences living with my wonderful dogs, and promoting purebred dogs. I own a relatively rare breed, the Ibizan Hound as well as Greyhounds. The many events my Ibizans and Grehounds have participated in include a booth at the Meet The Breeds event, junior showmanship competition and Lure Coursing competition. My exotic dogs even attracted the attention of my local newspaper and we were featured in an article. I participate in greyhound rescue and promote Greyhound adoption. I talk with potential adopters regarding the pros of having a greyhound, which includes their laid back personality and their ability to perform in many dog events. Retired racing greyhounds perform well in Lure Coursing and as an added benefit, these dogs, all from the rescue group I am a member of (Pups Without Partners Greyhound Adoption) are spayed or neutered before adoption, so they can participate in AKC events with an AKC PAL listing. At my local AKC Canine Good Citizen testing event my Ibizan obtained his CGC title. In all, my fellow dog enthusiasts and I educated the public on the correct and fun ways to have a happy family pet and all the rewarding experiences one can have through owning a purebred dog. ![]() |
