Katie Schroeder

Katie SchroederMy name is Katie Schroeder and I live in Hemlock, Michigan. I am twelve years old and in 6th grade. I have run agility for one year. My dogs name is Caspian he is four years old. Caspian is a Black Labrador. He is very sweet, and he loves food. Caspian jumps 20 in. preferred because it is easier on his joints, and he's my dog and I want him to last.

I think agility is fun because I can spend my time with my mom and sister. I also like it because we can go on road trips to different trials. We can also meet new people and dogs. Most of all, I love dogs. Caspian loves agility, and getting to come to the trials.

The hard things are that you can forget the course, or your dog can worry at obstacles and can occasionally get lazy. The first time I qualified with him, Caspian and I had ran into each other before the tunnel. I fell down and kept on going, we ended up getting a blue ribbon in that class.

You have to train and practice with your dog a lot. I keep a journal about all our runs and how we did. We have equipment at home to practice and we take classes to learn how to run agility better. I have learned a lot from the classes because our trainer helps me with the problems that I have. The hardest obstacle for Caspian is the dog walk because he is afraid of heights and he will fall off. I love agility and so does he!
