New to the GR Toolbox –
Educational Presentations on Topics in Government Relations
May 2011

The AKC Government Relations Department is pleased to introduce a new series of online PowerPoint presentations that discuss important issues in canine legislation, what to do when a bad bill is introduced, and how to advocate for responsible dog ownership. These informative presentations, narrated by AKC GR staff, can be downloaded or played directly from the AKC website at club meetings and educational events. The first program in the series is:

Understanding the Basics of Canine Legislation – This presentation provides a “Canine Legislation 101” course for those who are new to the world of canine legislation, need a refresher course on the basics, or are looking for new ideas on how to get involved. Topics include summaries of some of the most common canine legislative issues, an overview of the political process, and ideas on how to be effective advocates. We also review the numerous resources that AKC GR offers to help you better communicate with your fellow dog owners, neighbors and lawmakers. Click here to view or download this new presentation.

AKC clubs and federations are invited to use this and future presentations to educate members and guests about current legislation and how to work together to protect the rights of responsible dog owners.

To access this downloadable presentation, go to the AKC Government Relations website and click Presentations in the left panel or visit the AKC Government Relations Toolbox. Be sure to check back often, as new resources are added regularly. Look for the second presentation in the series, Why Breed Specific Legislation Doesn’t Work, coming next month.
