New Alabama Beagle Field Trial Grounds – Update
(Aug 2009)
The "Cattle Farm" located 8 miles east of Greesboro, AL has been purchased by the State of Alabama Forever Wild Land Trust. The area is being developed for outdoor recreational activities including Beagle field trials. The Deep South Gundog Federation has been raising money to build two enclosures on the property.
On Tuesday, August 3, 2009 the committee of the Deep South Gundog Federation in charge of the pen’s met at the cattle ranch to decide on how much fencing to purchase and where to build the enclosures.
Mel Stewart, committee chairman called the meeting to order at 10:05. Members present were Larry Dillard, Taylor Gilbert, Billy Horn, Leroy Russell, Gary Blevins, and Randy Rule. The DSBGD, other beaglers and clubs have raised over $20,000.00 for this project. The committee approved the construction of two 50 acre pens. The committee decided to purchase 108 rolls of 18ga, coated net wire. The State is in the process of burning to destroy the fescue grass. The wire will be stored until the burning is complete.
Proceeding with construction, the wood post will be set and clean around so the fire will not harm them. The wire will go up around November of this year.
