Retriever Hunting Tests
Golden Retriever Club of America National Specialty
The Golden Retriever Club of America welcomed 156 entries to the 2008 National Specialty AKC Hunting Retriever Test, hosted by the Yankee Golden Retriever Club on the weekend of September 19-20. The event was held at the West Thompson, Connecticut Flood Control Area and Dr. James Dean’s Peakebrook Farm at Woodstock, CT, both of which are beautiful properties.
The event was Chaired by Donna Morgan of Windham, NH and the event Secretary was Barbara Sawtelle of Hanover, MA. They and their Committee did a quite nice job with a well organized, smooth running event.
The Master stake, judged by Richard Young of Greenville, PA and Joseph Eschert of Elmer, NJ had 44 entries. These gentlemen did a very good job of setting up quality tests that made good use of the available terrain. The tests were challenging and were judged to the standard.
The Senior stake judged by Audie Gould of Herman, ME and Paul Botelho of Dartmouth, MA also made good use of the terrain and set up challenging tests. This stake had 41 entries and was finished late afternoon on Friday.
The Junior stake had 71 entries and was split into A and B divisions. The Junior A judges were Marion Bell of Cornwall Bridge, CT and Barbara Lindsay of South Salem, NY. Junior B was judged by the husband/wife team of Karen and Richard Kennedy of Danvers, MA Both sets of judges set up good challenging tests.
As you would expect, entries were predominately from the Northeast, but their were also entries from as far away as Miami, FL and San Antonio, TX.
