Potomac Valley Golden Retriever Club
by Milton Holcombe, Executive Field Representative
The Potomac Valley Golden Retriever Club held their Fall Hunting Test for retrievers on the weekend of October 23 & 24, 2010, at the beautiful grounds owned by Milly Welsh and Charlie Hayden (Rover's Content), located at Brandywine, Maryland. This is a really gorgeous property designed for training and testing retrievers of all levels. It was a small relaxed event with 18 entries in the Master stake, 20 in the Senior and 28 in the Junior. The event was chaired by Leslie Peszczynski, and the event secretary was Sharon Albright. They and their Committee had things well organized and smooth running.
The Master was judged by Mike Moss and Jim Drager with Paige Jones serving as apprentice. As is typical with Jim, he took advantage of the season and had Halloween themes, such as a talking skull on the tray of his chair, and baskets of candy in the holding blinds for the handlers. Their tests were quite nice and they ended up with 7 of the 18 entries receiving a qualifying score.
The Senior was judged by Dennis McConnell and Laura Weinmann, and also had some nice tests which were quite appropriate to the Senior dogs. The Senior ended up with 6 of the 20 entries qualifying.
Sunday's Junior stake was judged by Anne Evans and Nancy Wolston and 18 of the 28 dogs earned a qualifying score. I did not see their water marks, as I had to leave for the airport, but the land marks were quite nice and tested the dogs very fairly.
A good time was had by all thanks to a well organized club and gorgeous weather.
