Obedience at the Whippet National
The American Whippet Club's 18th National Specialty Show and Obedience Trial runs from April 4 through the 10th. The events are being held at the Embassy Suites hotel in Greensboro, North Carolina. We talked with the National Show Chair, Cindy Scott, and she said that event has set a new world record for Whippets in competition. There are 811 dogs entered in the show with a total entry of 1,212, including 66 obedience entries and 67 agility entries. People came from as far away as Alaska, Canada, France, Norway and South America. Vendors were selling just about anything you can think of related to Whippets.
Novice B and Novice A competitions were held Tuesday morning and were being judged by Kent Delaney. Kent was the recipient of the 2002 Lifetime Achievement Award for Obedience. Novice B was first. 30 dogs were entered in Novice B and 15 received qualifying scores. With 200 being a perfect score, the highest score was 196. The top four in Novice B were:

The Novice A competition was next. The Novice A class shall be for dogs that have not won the CD title and are at least 6 months old. A handler must own the dog entered, or be a member of the owner's household or immediate family, and may not have previously handled any dog that has earned an American Kennel Club obedience title. With 200 being a perfect score, the highest score was 194. The top four in Novice A were:
