Event Committee Bulletin
Winter 2012
From the Editor
The holidays have passed and hopefully everyone had a wonderful new year! With any luck you are now taking a step back and relaxing a bit. Who am I kidding? If a dog show person isn't working on their event then they are probably participating in another one! The new year has brought many new programs to AKC. We have launched the AKC Owner Handler Series. More information and a schedule of events can be found at www.akc.org/ohs. Open Shows and the 4-6 Month Beginner Puppy Competition along with Reserve Best in Show start July 3rd. Look for information on all these new programs on our website and in future Event Committee Bulletins.

This issue includes an update of the new Visiting Judges Approval Process from Judging Operations as well as information about advertising your upcoming event. As in every issue, you will find frequently asked questions, explanations of recent rule changes, and friendly reminders. Finally, there is information about Motel 6 offering discount to Dog Show Exhibitors!

Please send us your feedback about this issue. Your feedback gives us the guidance we need to be sure we are providing you and your event committee with the information you want and need.

Visiting Judges and the new Judging Approval Process

What you may not be aware of is that the new process contains modifications relative to Visiting Judges which may affect you directly in the assigning of your conformation judging panels for upcoming events.

AKC Weekly Winners GallerySM adds Featured Upcoming Events Section
The AKC Weekly Winners Gallery, which recently launched its new look, now also includes a special “Featured Upcoming Events” section.

Clubs can now advertise their upcoming events in the Gallery’s new section for as little as $150, and information about their event will be shared with tens of thousands of active exhibitors across the country.

There are three ad sizes available so clubs can include all the important details or just the essentials – location, date, superintendent and more! Also, with repeat ad-run discounts clubs can run ads well before the event and right before the entry close date as a reminder.

The AKC Weekly Winners Gallery, an official publication of the American Kennel Club, is a weekly e-newsletter sent to over 100,000 fanciers every Wednesday. The Gallery is also posted to the AKC’s Weekly Wins webpage and posted to the AKC’s Facebook page, with over 75,000 followers, ensuring that event ads get the maximum exposure!

For ad rates and sizes click here or contact Samantha Smith at 212-696-8259 or winshot@akc.org.

  • If the event type and fees are incorrectly listed in the Online Plans System do not pay with your credit card. Contact your event representative to have this corrected.
  • Open Shows & 4-6 Month Beginner Puppy competition become sanctioned events July 3, 2012. At these events, Certificate of Merit (CM) points can be earned.
  • Reserve Best in Show becomes effective July 3, 2012. This is not an optional award – clubs must offer it if they offer Best in Show.
