Do You Know Your Breed?
As an exhibitor and hopefully prospective breeder of your breed it is essential that you learn as much as you can about the breed. Do you know the breed's history? Is this a breed that has been recognized by the AKC for many years or one of the newer breeds? What was the original function of the breed? Why is that even important to know if you are showing in conformation? The breed standard for each breed is written by the Parent Club as the perfection of the breed based upon it's function. In the case of a Herding dog it is to keep livestock together. Read more.

Following in Her Mother's Footsteps
By Meghan Bassel
Growing up, much of Meghan Bassel's time was spent traveling to dog shows with her mother, Susan Riese. Some of her fondest memories are from carpooling to dog shows with her mom and various breeders, listening to hours of "dog talk". They discussed structure, breeding, type, genetics, health, grooming, and all other things dog-related. Meghan describes her mother's circle of friends as "exceptional", not only because of their experience with dogs, but because they always encouraged her to participate in their discussions and evaluations. It's About the Dog
By Raquel Hipskind

I got my first major win in February at Westworld which is the largest show in Arizona…it took my breath away. I was so shocked I almost walked out of the ring – the other handlers had to pull me back in. Read more.

A Boy and His Dogs
By Evan Muller
My life with dogs started the same as it has for many other young boys, with the family dog; a companion and friend to greet you when you get up in the morning and to curl up beside you when bedtime comes. I have been blessed with four awesome canine friends from three different AKC breeds. Read more.

My First National
By Dana Stokesberry
I wanted to share my experience with you that I had at my very first National Show Specialty. On Saturday October 2nd The American Chesapeake Club hosted their 2010 National at Christmas Hill Park, Gilroy, CA. The weather was warm and humid, and the grounds were infested with yellow jackets, but we managed to protect our dog from the heat and stinging insects, keeping him cooled and with plenty of water so overheating wasn't a factor. We met many new friends and I was asked to show two other dogs for fellow fanciers. Read more.
