A Message from Mari-Beth O'Neill
The implementation of the Junior Showmanship Master Class has created some confusion, concern, and generated constructive comments. I hope the following will help to clarify some of the confusion that has existed to date.

First I would like to remind you that it is the responsibility of the Junior to maintain a record of your wins. It is mandatory to move into the Master Class upon earning the 10th win in Open with Competition.
Moving into the Master Class is handled in the same format as moving up a dog to the Best of Breed Class and must be done 30 minutes prior to any judging the day of the show.
November 1, 2012 everyone returns to the appropriate Age Open Class.

AKC appreciates receiving your thoughts and suggestions pertaining to all aspects of AKC Junior Showmanship. Should you have constructive suggestions for the Junior Classes or recognition in AKC events please forward to

Special Events
It is my pleasure to confirm that the Atlanta Kennel Club will host a Top Junior Handler Competition at our October 20, 2012 all-breed show to be held at the Atlanta Exposition Center South, 3850 Jonesboro Rd, Atlanta, GA 30354. This will be a regional limited competition held in addition to the regular junior showmanship competition sponsored by the Club that day. The region we have set for the limited competition includes TX, AR, LA, MS, AL, GA, FL, SC, NC, TN & KY. An eligible junior will have placed first in an Open class with competition present twice between September 3, 2011 and September 3, 2012 and each junior will be responsible for providing information corroborating their wins. We will have two (2) preliminary competitions judged by Valerie Dombrowski and Susan Catlin, each to send four (4) juniors to the final being judged by Dr. Carmen Battaglia. The Board has elected to offer a $1,000 scholarship to the Top Junior Handler.
