Los Alamos Rewards Responsible Animal Ownership
A victory was won for responsible dog ownership when the Los Alamos County Council voted 7-0 to adopt a new animal control ordinance which focuses on using public education and clear terminology to improve animal ownership in the community. The county has dropped dog licensing, repealed an animal limit law and created innovative programs to allow for off-leash dog training.

Around the Nation: Legislation That Affects You
ALABAMA – The City of Montgomery is considering revisions to their dangerous dog ordinance. AKC has sent the mayor and city council letters encouraging them to pursue a fair, enforceable dangerous dog ordinance. Local dog club members are organizing to fight breed-specific legislation and have presented AKC dangerous dog packets, containing model dangerous dog ordinances, to the members of the city council.

CALIFORNIA – The Sacramento County Board of Supervisors will hear a proposal to establish a $150 intact animal fee at their August 1st board meeting. Fanciers and concerned dog owners need to attend the meeting and contact their member of the Board of Supervisors and ask him/her to oppose the measure. RDO Day Provides Legislator Education Opportunity
The American Kennel Club is pleased to announce that the fourth annual AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Day will be held on Saturday, September 16th. The goal of the initiative is to educate first-time dog owners about the responsibilities of dog ownership and help current owners enhance their relationships with their pets. This family and community friendly event is also a perfect opportunity to invite your local legislators to learn more about responsible dog ownership and the sport of purebred dogs.
